Beetle came to us from Pennsylvania in 2005
when she was one and a half years old. I picked Beetle up at the
airport. She is named after the 1967 VW Beetle, my favorite hard
working German car.
Back trouble was on my radar, but in my wildest dreams, I never
thought it would happen to me. Beetle went down on October 15, 2009.
As far as I could tell it wasn't a mechanical injury, she was in
horrible pain and spasm. I quickly took her to the vet. She had
no function of her rear legs and barely any deep pain sensation.
The vet gave me my options and I chose conservative treatment. It
got worse before it got better. Beetle completely lost her DPS,
bowel and bladder control. I was so discouraged and depressed. Once
I found Dodger's list I became so hopeful and encouraged. I followed
the advice by the letter of the law. Little things started to happen,
tail wagging returned about week 2, sensory leg kicking about week
4, standing week 6, and some gross motor functional walking attempts
week 7. Beetle had her vet check during her 8th week of crate rest
and was given the ok to start rehab. Our vet was very pleased with
her recovery. Beetle is now in a small x-pen in the kitchen and
she does her water therapy for up to 15-20 minutes. She wags her
tail while in the water so I guess she doesn't mind it. She gained
a little weight while on crate rest and she weighed 9.6 pounds at
the vet she is usually around 8.5 pounds. I sincerely thank everyone
who is involved with Dodger's list. You helped me get my beloved
Beetle back!!!!!
